Supertemps meet Prime Minister

Supertemps Directors Sarah and Andrew Ellwood were pleased to get the opportunity to talk business with Prime Minister Rishi Sunak on his visit to North Wales recently.

Supertemps was one of several local, family-owned, businesses to be invited to share their experiences and ask questions of the Prime Minister at the session hosted at We Cycle in Llandudno Junction.

“It was good to chat business with contacts old and new and, of course, get to ask questions of the PM and tell him how things have been for us over recent years and during COVID”,  said Sarah.

“He was genuinely interested in hearing what people had to say, good and bad, and spent time listening to concerns” she continued.

“We got to highlight the transport and infrastructure difficulties in our rural communities and explain the challenges some of our workforce experience in getting to work”, said Andy.  “We also got a chance to thank him for the furlough scheme which was a lifeline for us during COVID.”

Levelling Up

Prime Minister Sunak was on a two-day tour of the Region to promote the Levelling-Up agenda and he spent time meeting local farmers, businesses and the communities that stand to benefit.

Commitments made by the UK Government to the North Wales region include:

  • The new Anglesey Freeport which is expected to bring forward over a billion pounds in private and public investment and create thousands of jobs.
  • A major upgrade and electrification of the North Wales Main Line – backed by £1 billion investment – will bring parts of North Wales within an hour of Manchester.
  • A further £20m from the Levelling Up Fund will go to projects to develop and boost areas in Denbighshire including regenerating Rhyl town centre, creating more community centres, improving cycle and footpaths, and improving routes between the town and coast.
  • The investment in Denbighshire is one of seven projects across Wales which have been allocated a total of £111 million from round three of the Levelling Up Fund.

“It was not your normal Thursday” added Sarah, “In recruitment no two days are the same.  This was certainly one of those “different” days!”
